Donald Trump is forming a coalition of antagonists with the aim of undermining the United Nations, with assistance from Tony Blair.
Trump’s decision to establish this assembly, reminiscent of a budget version of SPECTRE, stems from two key incidents. The initial trigger was the Nobel committee’s choice in 2009 to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama, a figure Trump vehemently dislikes. This move fueled Trump’s pursuit of his own Nobel recognition, leading him to involve himself in efforts to resolve conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
Initially focused on promoting peace in Gaza and facilitating its reconstruction, the Board of Peace expanded its objectives following another event. During a visit to the United Nations last September, technical mishaps occurred, disrupting Trump’s speech delivery and prompting him to perceive these incidents as deliberate attempts to undermine him. This experience seemingly propelled Trump’s desire to dismantle the United Nations and establish a new entity, possibly with himself at the helm.
Presently, Trump has revealed the Board of Peace’s initial members, its expanded global mandate, and his appointment as lifelong chairman. Tony Blair’s involvement in this initiative, though less transparent, appears linked to his relationship with Jared Kushner and his history of involvement in Middle East conflict resolutions.
Despite initial concerns, Blair remains actively engaged in the plan, with his presence at the launch event underscoring his commitment. Trump has unveiled the group’s logo, resembling the UN emblem but adorned in gold and depicting the Americas as the entirety of the world. Notable figures like Viktor Orban and Javier Milei have joined the coalition, pledging allegiance to Trump as the leader.
Representatives from various countries attended the launch, though the majority are classified as ‘not free’ or ‘partly free’ according to Freedom House. Notably, Israel agreed to join but Netanyahu could not attend due to potential legal repercussions.
Trump’s actions suggest a desire for enduring power, possibly driven by a fear of losing his presidency. By positioning himself as the perpetual leader of this coalition, Trump may envision fulfilling ambitions akin to those of Boris Johnson and aspiring to global supremacy long after his political tenure ends.
