Donald Trump and his supporters spent several days distorting the tragic incident in Minneapolis, portraying the victim as a “domestic terrorist.” However, recent footage has cast doubt on this narrative.
Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, had dropped off her six-year-old son at school before encountering a group of ICE agents. She was shot three times and crashed into a parked vehicle, resulting in her tragic death on Wednesday. In the aftermath of the shooting, Trump’s allies launched an offensive, labeling the mother as someone who “weaponized her vehicle.” JD Vance went as far as calling her death a “tragedy of her own making,” a sentiment that has become all too familiar among Trump’s circle.
Despite efforts by the White House to defend the ICE agent involved in the shooting, the agent’s own body camera footage presented a different perspective. A video released on Friday by the online platform Alpha News showed the ICE agent circling Ms. Good’s vehicle while filming with his phone, capturing her face and license plate.
Ms. Good was seen responding calmly and politely to the officer, stating, “That’s fine, dude. I’m not mad at you.” Subsequently, she moved her car to allow other vehicles to pass as the immigration officers continued to question her.
The video footage showcased the contrast between Ms. Good’s composed final words to the officer and the aggressive behavior of the ICE agents, who demanded that she exit the vehicle. Following this interaction, the bodycam footage clearly depicted Ms. Good turning her steering wheel away from the ICE agent, not towards him. The agent then exclaimed “whoa” before firing three shots, leading to the tragic outcome of the car losing control and colliding with a parked vehicle.
In a final disrespectful act towards the victim, the agent was heard calling her a derogatory term as her vehicle spun out of control. The video evidence has contradicted the narrative pushed by Trump’s associates, who sought to downplay Ms. Good’s death and the ensuing protests in a city still reeling from previous tragic events.
The incident has reignited public outrage in a city that has been a target of Trump’s criticism. JD Vance recently held a press conference where he criticized the reporting on the incident, repeatedly claiming that the mother had deliberately targeted the ICE agent. Vice President Vance asserted that Ms. Good aimed her car at law enforcement and accelerated towards the officer.
Ms. Good, originally from Colorado Springs, was an acclaimed poet. Her first husband, who spoke anonymously to the media, described her as a devoted Christian who had undertaken a youth mission to Northern Ireland. Her spouse, Rebecca Good, paid a heartfelt tribute to her, emphasizing her loving and joyful personality.
While authorities sought to shield the ICE agent involved in the shooting, the officer’s own footage has provided conflicting evidence. Those close to Ms. Good portrayed her as a compassionate Christian devoted to her family, a stark contrast to the efforts of certain political figures to misrepresent her tragic death.
