Horrified residents in a popular British vacation destination have shared disturbing videos of apparent human waste surfacing through the ground amid heavy rainfall.
Disturbing footage depicts sewage rising, pushing up a manhole cover, and spilling onto the street. The heavy rain liquefied the waste, causing it to flood the area rapidly, turning it a murky brown. The video, posted online on October 29, was filmed on a main road in Fuengirola, a favored spot for British tourists and expatriates on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
“It’s a terrible smell,” remarked a local passerby. A town hall representative mentioned, “We have deployed a specialized team with vehicles and staff working throughout the city to assess and address the situation. The area is under constant monitoring, and efforts are ongoing to restore normalcy.”
On social media, users made lighthearted comments about the incident, with one individual humorously stating, “When nature calls, but you’re too late.” Another video, shared the same day, showed a “faecal fountain” in Torremolinos, another popular British vacation spot. An ankle-deep stream flowed down the street, with a column of spray resembling a water feature at its center. The Andalusia region in Spain woke up to chaos following a severe storm with torrential rain, tornadoes, and flash floods.
The provinces of Huelva and Seville were severely affected, with Huelva recording up to 160 liters of rain per square meter. This incident occurred a month after an explosion on a “tourist boat” in the Costa del Sol resort, injuring eight people. Three of the victims sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized. The explosion took place as the motorboat, described locally as a tourist boat, was departing the marina in the Spanish town.
Footage from the scene depicted firefighters at the marina extinguishing the flames with hoses from the nearest dry land point. Locals on jet skis and other boats assisted in rescuing passengers and attempting to extinguish the fire. The explosion was reported around 12:20 pm on October 4, with witnesses calling emergency services as a thick black smoke plume rose into the air, visible from nearby beaches. The cause of the explosion remains unknown.
A local fisherman stated, “It was an open polyester boat, which is highly flammable when combined with fuel.” The boat sank due to the onboard fire, and the area has been cordoned off for investigation.
The Fuengirola Town Hall issued a statement saying, “The Rescue and Lifesaving Service, Fire Department, Local Police of Fuengirola, and Civil Guard responded to a boat fire near the harbor mouth. Following an unexplained explosion, the boat caught fire. Rescue teams promptly reached the crew, evacuating them to safety.
“Eight people were onboard, all sustaining injuries, with three in serious condition, receiving immediate medical assistance. Subsequent to the explosion, the boat sank, and the Andalusian Ports Agency is monitoring the situation closely to evaluate potential spill containment measures.”
