Prince Andrew has made a significant decision to give up all his royal titles, prompting speculation about the implications for his former wife, Sarah Ferguson.
In a statement released recently, Andrew stated that, after discussions with King Charles III and other family members, it was agreed that the ongoing accusations against him were diverting attention from the royal duties. Consequently, he announced his choice to discontinue the use of his titles and honors.
This move has led to questions about Sarah Ferguson, who is expected to adopt the name Sarah Ferguson officially. She will be relinquishing the title she received on her wedding day to Prince Andrew, the former Duke of York.
Last month, Fergie was removed from her charity patronages due to leaked emails where she praised Epstein, the convicted sex offender, as a loyal friend.
Under mounting pressure from the King, Prince Andrew is renouncing his titles amid various scandals, including his ties to Epstein and an alleged Chinese spy. Despite claiming to have cut ties with Epstein in 2010, emails suggest he remained in contact with him in 2011.
Accusations of a sexual encounter with Epstein’s victim led to a £12 million settlement in 2022 to avoid a civil trial, although Andrew denied any wrongdoing. His titles will be suspended, including his membership in the Order of the Garter, while his princely title remains intact as he is the son of Queen Elizabeth II.
