A 71-year-old woman was subjected to ridicule by an assailant after he viciously assaulted her, causing severe injuries that left her fearing for her life. Jason Dyer, a 54-year-old with a history of criminal convictions, mercilessly attacked the woman, who regarded him as a stepson, resulting in fractures to her face and ribs. Nottingham Crown Court heard that he callously continued to laugh as she sat in distress, covered in blood from the brutal assault. When confronted by the police, Dyer callously admitted to the attack, showing no remorse.
Judge Michael Auty KC, in handing down an unusual life sentence to Dyer, emphasized the victim’s vulnerability and the brutality of the attack. The victim expressed her ongoing trauma and fear, stating that she struggles to cope with the aftermath of the assault.
The assault occurred at the woman’s residence in Nottinghamshire on October 18th last year, during which Dyer, who was allowed entry, suddenly turned violent. He claimed to hear voices commanding him to harm her before launching a vicious physical assault that left the victim bloodied and traumatized.
The victim managed to alert her daughter to the attack, who quickly sought help from emergency services. Upon arrival, the scene was described as bloodied and chaotic, with the victim visibly injured and in distress. The severity of the injuries sustained by the victim, including fractures and severe swelling, required her to undergo an extensive recovery period in the hospital.
Dyer, with a lengthy criminal record, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Judge Auty highlighted the alarming risk assessment of Dyer, which indicated a high likelihood of further harm to others, emphasizing that his release would be subject to the Parole Board’s evaluation of the safety implications.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the impact of violent crimes on individuals and communities, underscoring the importance of accountability and justice in such cases.
