A remarkable 15-year-old dart player, Mitchell Lawrie, has left Luke Littler amazed with his exceptional skills showcased at the WDF World Championship held at Lakeside. Lawrie set a new record by becoming the youngest player to triumph at Lakeside, defeating Tomoya Maruyama and Jason Brandon with impressive performances, including hitting five maximums and displaying remarkable checkouts.
Lawrie stood out with a remarkable 97.21 average, the highest recorded at the tournament. Littler expressed his astonishment towards Lawrie’s talent on the WDF Darts Instagram account, labeling him as exceptional.
Lawrie, filled with pride, reflected on his victory over Brandon, stating, “I’m absolutely buzzing with myself, to be honest.” Despite facing a tough opponent in Brandon, Lawrie managed to maintain a strong start and secure a convincing win.
Lawrie’s exceptional performance included finishing each leg in the first set within less than 15 darts. Although he missed out on a possible nine-darter, Lawrie impressed the crowd with a superb 134 checkout, garnering strong support throughout the match.
Despite facing a slight setback as Brandon picked up his game, Lawrie regained his focus and sealed the victory. Lawrie acknowledged the crowd’s support, stating, “The crowd were great as well.”
Looking ahead, Lawrie emphasized the need to stay focused and attributed his missed opportunities to external distractions. As the focus shifts to the upcoming PDC World Darts Championship starting on December 11, fans can catch all the action exclusively live on Sky with their Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
